QA/QC Engineer
Role Overview
The QA/QC Engineer will be responsible for supporting the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of the company’s Quality Management System across construction projects. Working closely with the Quality Manager, Project Managers, Site Management, Design Teams, and Subcontractors, the QA/QC Engineer will ensure that all works are delivered in compliance with company standards, client specifications, statutory requirements, and relevant industry standards.
The role will be based on live construction sites, providing technical quality assurance and quality control support throughout the project lifecycle. The QA/QC Engineer will play a key role in promoting a quality-first culture, driving right-first-time delivery, and ensuring quality objectives are achieved across all projects.
Key Responsibilities
Construction Site & Project Support
Provide QA/QC guidance and support to project teams, site management, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure compliance with quality requirements, specifications, and company procedures.
Develop, implement, and monitor Project Quality Plans, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), Inspection Checklists, and associated quality documentation.
Carry out regular site inspections, audits, and quality surveillance activities to verify compliance with approved drawings, specifications, method statements, and project requirements.
Ensure all inspection and testing activities are completed, recorded, and maintained in accordance with contractual and regulatory requirements.
Monitor workmanship standards and construction activities to identify quality issues, non-conformances, and potential risks at an early stage.
Raise, manage, and close out Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), ensuring effective corrective and preventive actions are implemented.
Support investigations into defects, quality failures, and client complaints, conducting root cause analysis and recommending practical corrective measures.
Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and consultants to ensure quality standards are maintained throughout project delivery.
Review quality records, test certificates, material approvals, and inspection documentation to ensure completeness and compliance.
Assist project teams with snagging, de-snagging, commissioning, and final handover processes.
Quality Management Systems & Compliance
Support the implementation and continual improvement of the Company Quality Management System in accordance with ISO 9001 requirements and industry best practice.
Participate in internal and external quality audits and support the timely close-out of audit findings and corrective actions.
Maintain quality documentation and records in accordance with company procedures and project requirements.
Ensure document control processes are followed and that only approved documentation is used on site.
Monitor quality KPIs and project performance metrics, highlighting trends, areas for improvement, and recurring issues.
Promote a culture of continuous improvement and right-first-time delivery across all business functions.
Support prequalification submissions, quality sections of tender responses, and quality-related client documentation as required.
Assist in the development and review of quality procedures, work instructions, templates, and guidance documents.
Training & Continuous Improvement
Deliver quality awareness training, toolbox talks, and quality briefings to project teams and subcontractors.
Provide coaching and support to site teams on QA/QC processes, inspection requirements, and documentation standards.
Facilitate lessons learned workshops and share quality improvement initiatives across projects.
Support innovation, digital quality management systems, and process improvement initiatives to enhance project delivery.
Stay informed on updates to quality standards, building regulations, construction best practice, and emerging industry trends.
Requirements
3-5 years' experience in a QA/QC, Site Engineering, or Quality-focused role within the construction industry.
Third-level qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Building Engineering, or a related discipline.
Strong understanding of construction processes, quality assurance principles, and quality control methodologies.
Experience implementing and maintaining Quality Management Systems, with knowledge of ISO 9001 standards.
Experience developing and reviewing Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), quality plans, method statements, and construction records.
Ability to identify quality risks, investigate root causes, and implement effective corrective actions.
Experience conducting site audits, inspections, and quality reviews on construction projects.
Strong attention to detail with excellent organisational and problem-solving skills.
Effective communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and engage project teams.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and digital document management systems.
Full clean driver's licence and willingness to travel to project locations as required.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
Lead Auditor or Internal Auditor qualification.
Membership of a relevant professional body (Engineers Ireland, CIOB, CQI, or equivalent).
Experience on large-scale commercial, residential, industrial, healthcare, pharmaceutical, data centre, or infrastructure projects.
Familiarity with digital quality platforms and common data environments (CDEs).
